TV Guide’s Hot 100 Party – My First Publicity Assignment

Here’s My Card.

I don't know how they do it...all of the flashes scared the shit out of me.

I’m still in partial shock over the awesome new job as a publicist I’ve magically acquired due to my freakishly impressive email writing skills and extremely diverse five-page resume. Samantha Jones always did seem to have so much fun as a publicist on Sex and the City, I just never thought I’d qualify since my degree is in Biology and not PR. But surprise! Being an Internet/writing/social media/social in general genius landed me the job. Now I’m Carrie AND Samantha! (Job-wise comparison only).

At first I thought I’d be doing typical tedious assistant-type work, but nope, my awesome new boss threw me right into the bullpen. After a mere week I was scheduling radio interviews for a singer on tour, confirming travel plans for a Real Housewife of Beverly Hills, and walking a Reality TV star down the Red Carpet next to dozens of other celebrities.

I’ll admit, it was a bit terrifying and intimidating having all of the cameras flashing — some of who’s cameramen look confused about if they should be shooting pics of me since I was dressed for the event — but my awkward stance next to my clients perfect, practiced pose obviously told them otherwise. But all was well and dandy after I walked my client down the red carpet and into the event, where I was about to turn to leave when she (and my boss) insisted that I stay and have drinks. Turns out she’s a shit ton of fun, and as hilarious, personable, and sweet as she is gorgeous.

I was a bit irritated when two other celebish-friends and one of the bartenders I knew asked what I was doing there, at TV Guide’s Hot 100 Party since clearly I was not on a TV show, but the shock and confusion when I replied with “I’m a publicist now, that’s my client” was enough to repent for it. Plus the fact that I already know damn well that I can’t even take a good picture, so there’s no way in hell I’d ever be able to act…hence the typed blog and upcoming novel.

Anyway, there were tons of TV stars there, most of which I had absolutely no idea who they were since I don’t watch TV, but it made me decide to start studying all of the Hollywood gossip sites. Apparently all of the little Glee people were there, the Guardians of the S.H.I.E.L.D. were on the cover of TV Guide Magazine and at the table next to us, there were some children stars,

Agents of the S.H.I.E.L.D. cast...never seen it but it made the cover of TV Guide Magazine.

which, was weird, considering that the event was in a nightclub with an open bar…never too early to start I guess…Anna Faris had a HOT Hervés dress on but she kinda seemed like she was either high or had just gotten Juviderm in her lips while she was on the red carpet and media line.

Anyway, we didn’t stay long (the event ended at 10pm anyway), but apparently I did a good job at the event, because I’m now in charge of all red carpet events — and with clients as cool as mine, I’m pretty damn excited about it.
