15 New Year’s Resolutions Everyone Should Make in 2015

If you’re having trouble organizing your New Year’s resolutions for 2015, consider some of these. But more importantly, if you’re going to make them your New Year’s resolution, make a plan so that you can actually accomplish them. According to Forbes only 45% of people make New Year’s resolutions and only 8% accomplish them. Be the 8%.

Let the best year yet begin!

1. Travel More.

Easier said than done. But seriously, you’re not getting any younger, pick a place, give yourself a goal date, and set milestones each month for how much you’re going to save. Saving $200 a month can land you a sweet plane ticket by summer.

My advice: start looking at Groupon Getaways or Living Social Escapes, you’ll be quite surprised (and excited) at how cheap a trip including airfare is.

2. Just Say No To Drama

If you’re still finding yourself in a constant argument, fight, or shit talking fest, stop it. Exuding negativity is only going to make you feel and look negative, and negative isn’t a cute look. You’re not in highschool or a college fraternity/sorority anymore, Peter Pan. You’re a grown up. Act like one.

3. Learn About Your Generation

If you’re reading this, chances are you’re a Millennial…and chances are that you’d rather read a numbered list than an article 😉 . That’s just one of the many observations and statistics about our generation, and also one that can help boost your knowledge of business and networking. There’s about to be a lot of technological advances in 2015, especially since the generation below us is about to make their debut, so start researching, and get ready, because it’s definitely our time to shine.

4. Help More People

Whether it’s packing lunches for the homeless, or simply smiling at a stranger, make a point to help more people in need in 2015. There are so many ways to get involved, and so many reasons why you should, so if you don’t, you’re kind of an asshole. Look out for my new charity called Heartsleeves launching in January, for an easy way to help kids in need in Africa.

5. Get Healthy.

Coming from a person who cringes at the mere thought of In-And-Out or McDonalds, this is way easier for me to say than for most people to do. So I’ll just go ahead and drop some facts to motivate you. Did you know that if you don’t eat enough leafy greens, it can make vag smell? Yeah. Get on that kale salad craze.

6. Stop Making Excuses For Toxic People

If you’ve ever thought that “maybe they’ll change” or “maybe it’ll get better”, they won’t, and it won’t. If you are constantly let down by a friend or person who flakes, fights, uses, or makes you feel down in general, it might be time to let that ship sail. There’s plenty of good people in the world, spread your wings and go find them little butterfly.

7. Stop Listening to Mainstream Media

Yes. I’ll admit, I despise mainstream media like CNN and Fox, so this is strictly an opinion…but I mean, come on, some of the crap I see posting online that they heard on the news is just plain ridiculous (i.e. Ebola. Just sayin’). If you want to know what’s really going on in the world, start listening to world news like BBC or read a national accredited news paper.

There’s a term for people who believe everything they hear on CNN and Fox…we call it “sheeple”.

8. Start a Happy Morning Ritual

Again, I’m biased because I can wake up whenever I want, but regardless, I am the worst morning person on the planet. To fix this, I adopted a morning ritual: my alarm clock is the song “This is Gunna Be The Best Day of My Life”, I wake up to it, cuddle with my dog, then go for a walk with him and bask in the glorious LA sunlight while silently thanking the universe for allowing me to be here. You should do the same, and if you don’t feel grateful for where you are, MOVE.

9. Schedule More Time With People You Care About

When was the last time you caught up with your best friend, or sent a thoughtful message to your roommate from college? It’s nice to keep connections with people, so make it a point to schedule some plans, and actually keep them. PS go call your mother.

10. Start Your Hobby

Is there something that you constantly say, “I’ve always wanted to” about? Write that shit down, then write a plan for how you’re going to make it happen! Start with the end goal, then fill in the milestones in between that you can realistically accomplish throughout the year.

11. Put. The Phone. DOWN.

Yes we are very lucky to have anything we want at our fingertips at all times, but if we’re constantly looking at our phones, you know what we won’t have? Social skills. Sure you’re hilarious in that group chat, but I highly doubt your date thinks that when you’re snickering at a screen rather than at the joke they just told.

Make it a point to put your phone away while in a social setting, at dinner, and while you’re driving. Putting it away while you’re working will also boost your efficiency.

12. Let it Go

Like my girl Elsa says, let it go. Didn’t get the job you wanted? Let it go. Had another failed relationship? Let it go. Have some other irrelevant negative event happen in any of the past years of your life? Let it go. You can’t change the past…but you can control what happens in the future.

13. Exercise……..

This is probably on everyone’s New Year’s resolutions list…but did you know that according to Forbes, only 8% of people actually accomplish their goals? I hate exercising. Lots of people do. But I’m going to make a very strong attempt to start doing it in 2015. My plan is to make a chart that forces me to check off the indicated days I have to work out, that way I’ll blatantly be able to see if I’m slacking or actually accomplishing something.

14. Keep Learning

If you think learning stops after you’ve graduated, you’re not as smart as you think you are. Studies show that people who continue learning are more personable, successful, and overall pleasant to be around, versus those who don’t. That doesn’t mean go back to school, but maybe try learning a new language with a free app like DuoLingo, or make a Feedly account for a topic you don’t know about. Think of it this way…do you want to be like Leonardo DiCaprio, or Justin Bieber.

15. Appreciate Yourself

No more self deprecation, no more self pity, no more thinking you’re the victim. Give yourself a good slap in the face and remind yourself that you’re no more human than anyone else, and everything you have accomplished and can accomplish in 2015, is up to YOU.

Happy New Year!
