Best Rooftops in Cartagena in 2024

I like to think of myself as a rooftop connoisseur, and without a doubt, the rooftops in Cartagena met my high standards! In fact, I didn’t even know Cartagena had so many amazing rooftops!

My main vision was that it was the colorful, whimsical buildings that stunned visitors. But seeing them from above, especially poolside and with a cocktail in hand brings it to a whole other level!

The best part is that most of the rooftops are free to go up to! We of course bought at least a cocktail at each to enjoy the view for a bit. But it was amazing to be able to stay at a $50/night Airbnb yet still enjoy the 5 star hotel rooftops!

Here are my three absolute favorite rooftops in Cartagena and why!

1. Overall Best Rooftop: Townhouse Boutique Hotel

Address: Cra. 7 ##36-88, Cartagena, Provincia de Cartagena, Bolívar, Colombia

I had heard about Townhouse and fully understood the hype when we got up there. Not only was the front desk extremely inviting, allowing us to store our luggage there, but more than happy to show us up to the roof.

When the glass doors opened, I was in heaven! It was so me! Pink and green tropical palm prints everywhere, two small pools, and a neon sign that reads “Bitch, Where’s my champagne?”…although I would only ever say that to my boyfriend.

Not only was the vibe amazing, but the food and drinks were some of the best we had as well! I’d highly recommend the Frozé and veggie sliders!

2.Best View: Movich Hotel

Address: Centro Histórico, Calle de Vélez Danies No. 4 – 39 Cartagena Hotel, Colombia

The Movich Hotel is probably the most prominent of the rooftops in Cartagena, and where you can see the most photographed view!

It has a two-level rooftop, with an infinity pool on the lower one, and smaller whirlpool on the top one. There’s also a bar and deck area on the upper level. The view is absolutely breathtaking, showcasing both the Old City and the newer city in the distance!

You can also see all of the other rooftops below it from up there! Which is how we plotted where to go next!

3. Most Chill: Sophia Hotel

Address: Calle 32, de la Aduana, Cra. 45 #26c4, Cartagena, Cartagena de Indias, Bolívar, Colombia

Not going to lie, I wasn’t expecting a house DJ, champagne-drunk girls, misters, and a chalice for my wine atop a pool rooftop in Colombia.

But low and behold, I found myself pondering if I was actually in LA or Miami at the top of the Sophia Hotel! It’s a smaller area which adds to the chill vibe, and they have no problem at all letting you lounge poolside with your cocktail.

It also has a great view of the top of the cathedral, which was perfect for sunset!

4. Best Nightlife: Alquimico

Address: Calle del Colegio ###34-24, Cartagena, Provincia de Cartagena, Bolívar, Colombia

Note: It opens at 6pm and the rooftop is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays!

Tons of people recommended Alquimico as well, but unfortunately we went on a Monday and it was closed for cleaning.

The first and second floors were still open though, so we stayed to try one of their famous cocktails anyway. Alquimico, as the name implies, specialized in mixology, and uses fruit-infused liquors!

If you have any other rooftops to add to this list, please share them in the comments below!

  • Love this! I just left Bogota, in Medellin now, and thought let me check out if Alyssa has any articles on Colombia lol! I am headed to Cartagena 2/7! Will def check out Movich and Sophia! The view at Movich is WOW!

  • I’m thinking about going to Cartagena in two weeks with a friend. I’m not sure about the safety though. Did you feel safe there? Would you recommend it? Looks beautiful. Just feeling so unsure about things

    • I felt beyond safe! In fact we were walking around with our expensive camera out, iphones in hand, even put my tripod down a few times and never felt unsafe. (Of course, I don't recommend doing that and being flashy!) But yes I would highly recommend Cartagena, we had an amazing time!
