If enjoying the dolce vita in Positano is on your dream bucketlist, but the expensive prices have you cringing, read on to find out how to spend a day in Positano on a budget of $25!
Full honesty here, I was not really on a budget as this was one of my first “successful girl vacations”, but the inner former broke girl in me did not like that one drink at the beach bar was $20! I also have an entire month traveling in Italy during high season, so wanted to figure out how to make it more attainable!
This budget of $25 is for just the day in Positano. It does not include accommodation costs. Hotel and BnB prices in Amalfi Coast are extremely expensive, so I stayed 30 minutes up the mountain in Agerola where I found a BnB for $100 per night. Buses run frequently from there to Amalfi and Positano as well!
Alright here’s my outline for how to spend a day in Positano on a budget of $25

Although they look extremely terrifying whipping around the winding roads of the Amalfi Coast, the Sita bus is the cheapest way to get to Positano. You can take it from pretty much anywhere, it even starts at the Naples airport, and was up in the mountains of Agerola.
A one way ride from Agerola (1.5 hours from Positano) is about $2.6. So roundtrip should be about $5!

(Note: You can also get an unlimited day pass for $10. Also note: if you get car sick, take Dramamine!)
If you plan on drinking and eating in Positano, skip the pricey restaurants and buy some drinks and snacks from the Delicatassen just before they steps down to the beach. Type in “delicatassen” on google maps to find the exact location, but you can’t miss it, be sure to look up!
Here you can find reasonably priced snacks and chilled wine, brut, beer, even Aperol Sprtiz to go!
Of course, if you’re staying in a town where there’s a super market, it might even be cheaper to buy some things from there and bring them with you!
NOTE: I’m not fully sure if bringing your own booze is totally legal on the beach, so we were discreet and didn’t have a problem. AKA I recommend being discreet about it!
At the far end of the beach near Rada Beach restaurant, there’s a row of adorable blue and white changing booths you can use for free. They also have free toilets to use as opposed to the restaurant toilets that charge you if you’re not eating there.
If you’re ok with not using a sunbed, there’s a small-ish patch of sand that’s designated just for people wanting to set up in the sand, and it’s free! Of course, it gets very crowded, but if you get there early you can grab a good spot!
Be sure to bring a towel, otherwise they are $5 to rent!
If you want to splurge on a beach chair, the cost for non-front row is $35. Front row is $40.

The difference of only $5 between the front and the non-front row is not justifiable. Well, it is good that the patch is free for people to just lay their towels, and relax.
