Top 10 Travel PIcs That Scared the Crap Out of My Mother

My mom and I are basically living proof that the wanderlust travel gene exists, except for one minor difference; I tend to travel and do things as dangerously as possible. I don’t do it on purpose, but I mean, if there’s a cliff to be climbed or waterfall to jump off of…it’s going to happen. To be fair, her travels in the pre-cell phone, pre-be-cautious-about-hitch-hiking -days were basically just as dangerous.

Also to be fair, she sees everything I post on social media, including SNAPCHAT, so it’s not like anything is ever really a shock to her. Well…aside from certain photos that you can’t really tell what the outcome was…

I really do try not to scare my mom, especially since she’s all for me traveling the world, but sometimes I forget that I’m sending or posting certain photos that would give any mom a heart attack. So here are my top travel pics so far that have caused the biggest ruckus! And thanks mom for being such a good sport! 🙂

Sitting Next to a Lion in South Africa

They were so cute tho…

Jumping off a Cliff in Mexico

Standing on a Cliff Over the Grand Canyon

Leaning Over a Cliff on the Inca Trail

She wasn’t concerned about the height, she was concerned about my sunburn.

Getting Hit by a Car on a Motorcycle

Getting Stuck in a Flash Flood in Havasu Falls

Sitting on a Very Thin Potato Chip Rock

Climbing a Tree Over Coral…While She Was Taking the Picture

Showing Me…Co-Piloting a Plane in the Bahamas

My First Experience with Heights and Ice in Norway

Continuing on to Zion Solo and After the Flash Flood

Sending her Birthday Wishes from (Above) Horseshoe Bend

Telling Her I Had Just Biked “Death Road” in Bolivia

After Insisting on Mailing me my “Winter Clothes” from Florida when I decided to go Next to the North Pole.

Flying Malaysia Airlines

I booked it before the second one got shot down…two weeks before my flight….my mother said, “well what are the chances it happens a third time?”

Getting Locked in the Sydney Aquarium

This was before I realized I spent too long in the Sydney aquarium and got locked inside. My mother was un-phased by my terrified-ness and even accused me of wanted to be locked in the aquarium because I like animals….

Smuggling a Plant and Cigar in from Cuba

First of all…I heard that Cohibas are legal to bring back…she was just scared because a year prior I probably would have been jailed.
Yeah, it isn’t legal at all to bring plants back from Cuba so I guess she has a right to be scared about this pic…. sorry?

Surfing with Sharks in South Africa

She told me not to go “Shark-Diving”…I was going to but it got cancelled…luckily I still accidentally got to dive with them while attempting to surf in South Africa….

Skydiving.

I didn’t tell her or show her the video until after I did it.

Going to Honduras (in General)

She wasn’t scared about me getting kidnapped or robbed in Honduras…she was scared when I told her I bought a little knife because she thought I’d attack someone and get arrested….
I’m not allowed talking about this one, but let’s just say my mother had to wire me $2k and tell me to get the f to the airport.

  • I love this SO much! My mom and I do this same exact dance. And #7... I did the exact same thing. I told my mom I would never go skydiving, then I jumped out of a plane in Africa with "Sorry Mom <3 U" written on my hands. She didn't find out until I uploaded the picture to facebook and tagged her in it :)

  • Wow!! I'm so curious about that last one!! You crazy adventure girl you! Haha generally if my mama is scared it probably means I'm about to do something awesome.
