Travel Budget Calculator – How Much to Save for your Trip

Use this simple travel budget calculator to get ready for your next trip! All you need to do is enter estimates for flights, hotels, and your daily spending habits! If you haven’t started planning yet, see my tips below for getting accurate estimates!

You can also use this travel budget calculator to note how much you spent on your last trip!

Need help calculating estimates? Use these tips to give you an idea of how much things will cost! You can also use the same tips to plan and book your actual trip!

1. Flight Cost Estimates

A quick search on Skyscanner to your destination can give you an idea of how much flights will cost! If you’re not prepared to book right away though, you may want to add on a couple hundred dollars. The longer you wait, the higher prices go up!

If you’re unsure of where you want to go yet and are aiming for lowest budget, play my game of Flight Roulette! It’ll show you the cheapest places to fly to! You can also use it to find out when the cheapest months are to travel to your desired destination!

2. Estimating Hotel Rates

Costs of hotels vary drastically depending on where you’re going. Unless you’re already booked, it can be hard to guess how much the average price will be. You can set your budget based on how much you want to spend, then search hotels based on that.

Or you can do a general map search of the destination you’re going to, and see what the average prices are. Use the map below to type in where you’re going and see the average costs of hotels.

3. Estimating Daily Food & Travel

A quick search on your favorite travel blog (like mine) will tell you what typical prices are for meals and transportation in most destinations! You can also set your own budget and aim to eat at places that are within it. A good estimate is usually $20 for food/drinks per day and $10 for travel, depending on where you go.

4. Estimating Additional Costs

My typical estimate for additional necessary costs for things like travel insurance and SIM cards is usually around $20 each per week. You can get a better idea by just entering where you’re going and for how long on World Nomads for the travel insurance.

For data/wifi, it’s usually $10 PER DAY if you use a wifi hotspot or your US service’s international plan. But if you get a SIM card it’s drastically less.

ALWAYS check to see if you need a visa for where you’re going! Not only will you be denied entry if you don’t have one, but sometimes they can cost up to $200!

  • Love this, we made our app due to the same concept! We always wanted to research a place before we went and that includes the price! You can get stung with some pretty hefty bill prices when travelling!
