WHAT UP WORLD?! Welcome to The Wanderlust Workers, my precious baby of a project that is a “travel savings and makings” program for people that understand that “Dreams Don’t Work Unless You Do”!
That being said, this is NOT a course on how to become a travel blogger! Why? Because I did NOT get to travel the world at first because I was a travel blogger! I had to work my ass off, just like everyone else, in order to be able to pay my bills AND fund my own travels for two years before I was able to turn my blog into a business!
This program is designed using my exact techniques that I used to save money AND make money while I was simultaneously trying to build a blog and a brand. There’s no secret, I haven’t make any amazing discovery about how to do it, I’m just really really good at using the internet, and thinking way outside of the box!
The key to making your experience with The Wanderlust Workers a success, is to always remember that “Dreams Don’t Work Unless You Do”.
So let’s begin, shall we? First things first, if you’re reading this, you are probably interested in signing up for my second interactive group of Wanderlust Workers on Facebook, which I’ve set up so that we can all do this program together, and help motivate each other along the way. Just make sure you sign up through the Facebook sign-up on my page, or send me an email with the subject line: “Wanderlust Workers Group 2”.
You will find all of the outlines, information, and resources for learning on here (my blog), but you’ll only have access to files, forms, homework (hehe), and motivational materials in the group, plus exclusive savings perks from my awesome travel-contacts that I’ve already nagged about giving me stuff to give my group members 🙂
Below you will find the overall program outline for The Wanderlust Workers, which you are free to start looking into on your own! If you aren’t a member of this group session, you can follow my Facebook page or subscribe to my newsletters to receive updates on when the next Steps are posted!
My first group had over 100 people sign up, about 50 actually made through the program (it requires some dedication!), and about 30 saved hundreds, even thousands of dollars, and actually booked trips and are now traveling! You can do that too!!!
GOALS: Learn what costs you can cut out and put towards travel savings, make a plan to commit to saving a certain amount of money per week, search and obtain freelance jobs for your travel funds, learn budget travel techniques.
During week one, you need to start getting the mentality that you are going to commit to saving your money in order to travel. You’ll first open or designate your very own Travel Fund savings account that you are not allowed to touch until it comes time to start booking stuff. Then, you’ll start learning what you’re doing that’s preventing you from saving money.
I understand that everyone has bills and loans to pay, TRUST ME, so do I! But I know most of you are also spending money on unnecessary things, which is what we are going to try to change. Think of it as a detox diet: you really want the yummy food, but if you eat it, you’re going to regret it later and not be happy.
Your spending diet is going to work the same way: you may really want the cool new gadget or dress, but if you spend the money, you’re just going to be complaining later that you don’t have any to travel. You also need to get all of your shit together, and write down how much you’re earning vs. spending vs. saving.
During the first week you’ll also start perusing through trip options, and getting an idea of how much it’s going to cost you to travel. By the end of the week, you should have an idea of how much you’re currently able to save, and how much you’ll need to make in addition to it to be able to comfortably fund your travels.
The majority of the people who do the Wanderlust Workers travel savings and makings program all already have jobs. Some don’t, and some are students, but the bottom line is that EVERYONE is going to be looking for and obtaining a new job this week that can be done solely from online.
At the beginning of Week 2, I will provide you with a massive list of skills you may or may not know you have, and then another massive list of websites that have freelance jobs in each of the categories. Your goal for Week 2 will be to successfully make a pitch, submit a resume (which I’ll provide templates for), and obtain AT LEAST ONE freelance job, which 100% of your earnings will go towards your travel fund!
Keep in mind that I SOLELY funded myself paying rent and traveling by working MULTIPLE freelance jobs at once!
AND, I had NO PRIOR background or education in journalism, PR, marketing or anything! I literally Googled how to do things, created an awesome resume, and talked (well, wrote) my way into getting all of the gigs!! My degree is in Biology, I was supposed to be a veterinarian, not a blogger, but guess what? I had a dream, and I chased the shit out of it. AKA You can too!
You will also be continuing your Spending Diet this week, except instead of buying the things you didn’t need to buy last week, you’ll be writing down what you wanted to buy (but didn’t), how much it costed, and then adding all of those prices up, and transferring that amount into your travel savings account. I’m also going to be encouraging group members to share on a “What I DIDN’T buy today” thread what they wanted to buy, but didn’t. 😉
I don’t mean to brag but, I am REALLY good at travel hacking, and after this week, you will be too. During Week 3 of The Wanderlust Workers, you’re going to learn a shit ton of awesome travel hacking and budget traveling skills, and probably start wondering why you aren’t traveling more often.
You’re also going to be increasing your freelance work load and the amount of money your saving instead of spending on unnecessary crap like Starbucks and Uber (as in, Uber Pool is half the price).
Week 4 is going to be crunch time; you’re going to be pushed to hit your goals, organize everything you’re doing, and make your Wanderlust Workers milestone plans for the remaining 4 months, or however long until the trip you’re planning.
Just to give you an idea of how much I expect everyone to be able to save and make from this program, it’s around $2,000. Some will make more, some will make less, it’s ENTIRELY up to you. I’m just here to guide you, tell you what I know, motivate you, and then bask in the glory of your smiling faces when you actually make it on that trip you’ve been dreaming of.
SO WHO’S READY TO TRAVEL THE WORLD?!
(I’m raising both of my hands and jumping really high)
