9 Best Places For A Solo Travel Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and you know what that means. The whole world seems to start exclusively talking about love, romance and relationships!

It also often means that the travel world starts promoting adventure escapes for couples or a getaway for two at a romantic destination like Paris, aka, the City of Love.

But let’s be honest, just because you’re traveling on or around February 14, doesn’t meant you want to think about Valentine’s Day. Maybe you’re single, or maybe you’re in a relationship but heading out on your own solo travel adventure.

Either way, we’ve got you covered. Below is a round up of 9 solo travel destinations that guarantee two things:

  1. You’ll have the best time doing the thing that will always have your heart (traveling, obvs), and
  2. You’ll forget what that big event on February 14 is that people gush over (seriously, you’ll be like “what’s it called again? V-something Day, right?”)

So raise your glass to a lifetime of travel and amazing adventures, and keep scrolling to pick your next solo travel Valentine’s Day destination.

1. Turks and Caicos

Looking for a solo travel tropical escape? Look no further than stunning Turks and Caicos

This gorgeous archipelago of 40 coral island is located in the Atlantic, southeast of the Bahamas. You’ll be so mesmerised by the calm turquoise waters, Valentine’s Day won’t even cross your mind.

So what does one do while on a solo travel adventure in Turks and Caicos? Explore the beautiful waters of course! Home to colourful fish, turtles and rays, Turks and Caicos is a great place to go snorkelling and diving.

If you’re after some self-care time, there’s a ton of world class spas around for you to #treatyo’self!

2. Queenstown, New Zealand

Aka, the adventure capital of the world and a dream for anyone on a solo travel adventure.

Queenstown is home to some epic activities like white water rafting, jet boating, river surfing, canyon swinging and bungee jumping! Ain’t nobody got time to think about Valentines Day with so much adrenaline pumping through their veins!

Don’t worry though, Queenstown has more to offer than adrenaline junkie adventures. If you’re after some relaxation time, go for a stroll around Lake Wakatipu. Or, head to the Onsen Hot Pools and prepare to sit back, relax and enjoy some quality you time.

From there, you could venture on a solo travel road trip of the South Island to take in all of New Zealand’s beautiful scenery (a must, especially if you are a Lord of the Rings fan).

3. Las Vegas, Nevada

What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas … or does it?! Solo travel in Vegas guarantees you’ll forget about Valentine’s Day, and possibly what you got up to the night before.

You’ll have so much fun taking in all the casinos, restaurants, shows and parties, you won’t have time to think abut anything or anyone else.

In your down time, head over to the Venetian and take a gondola ride through the “Venice Canals”. You’ll feel as relaxed as if you were in Italy, minus the any Italian antics (yes, we’re talking about romance).

4. Machu Picchu, Peru

Like most travel lovers, hiking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu is probably on your bucket list, right?

So why not book a solo travel adventure to Machu Picchu around Valentine’s Day?

Being surrounded by the magnificent peaks of the Andes and exploring the incredible historical ruins will no doubt take your breath away (figuratively and literally) in a way that Valentine’s Day never could!

5. New York City, New York

What better way to forget about Valentines Day than to get lost in the hustle and bustle of New York City?!

Home to some of the most famous sights in the world, New York City is a must visit solo travel destination.

There’s so much to see and do! From wandering through Central Park, eating your heart out at all the incredible restaurant and roadside stands and checking out all the artwork at the Met.

Not to mention taking in the city views from the Top of the Rock (or one of the many rooftop bars), checking out a Broadway show, and shopping ’til you drop.

You will absolutely be living your solo travel dream in New York City.

6. Easter Island, Polynesia

Solo travel around Easter Island is an adventure waiting to happen!

Obviously the main attraction is the famous (and incredible) Moai statues, seeing them alone will make you forget all about Valentine’s Day.

You’ll also get to learn all about the history and culture of the Island from the local Rapa Nui people (who happen to be pretty good looking, fyi).

Of course, Easter Island is an island so you will also have access to some stunning scenery like bright blue waters with palm trees in the background – pure bliss!

7. Budapest, Hungary

Ah Budapest, the beautiful capital city of Hungary. Budapest offers a lot of great options for anyone on a solo travel adventure.

If you’re a history or architecture fan, check out the stunning Parliament House, the amazing Liberty Statue, Széchenyi Chain Bridge and the must-see Hungarian Parliament.

Looking to chill out in Budapest? Széchenyi Spa is beautiful and a great place to relax on your own, or to meet other fellow solo travelers.

Let’s not forget about a pub crawl through the Budapest ruin bars. A pub crawl will a) guarantee you have a fun time, b) allow you to meet other fun travelers, and c) ensure you absolutely forget about Valentine’s Day!

8. Sri Lanka

Home to a whole lot of history, culture, beautiful scenery (including the famous tea plantations), cute elephants and delicious food = a solo travel win!

There’s so much to see and do in Sri Lanka, Valentine’s Day will be the last thing on your mind.

If you’re looking for the best way to take the country in, check out this scenic train route that will guarantee you see and experience every aspect of Sri Lanka.

9. Ubud, Bali

For all you Eat, Pray, Love fans out there!

Immerse yourself in the beautiful jungle scenery and lose all Valentine’s Day related thoughts.

Bali is pure bliss when you are out on a solo travel adventure, allowing you to unwind and escape the madness of day to day life.

So what are you waiting for? Head to Ubud and allow yourself to explore the scenery, eat the amazing local food, chill out poolside, and do some yoga.

Pro tip – a lot of travel enthusiasts and bloggers set up a base in Bali so you never know what friendships you might strike up while you’re there!
