When travel opened up to Cuba, I was one of the first people to get to go from the U.S. on a “family visit” visa. I was sent by GeoChic Magazine to write their main editorial about Cuba, and also a personal editorial as I discovered my roots in Cuba by traveling to the town where my grandparents lived.
I followed a hidden journal I found after my grandmother passed away a few years ago that describes everything, and of course, had a great tour guide (my second cousin) to show me around!

Hey Alyssa,
I’m a sucker for family history, and this video really struck a cord for me. I’m originally from Mexico (living in Canada now), and I dream of doing the same sometime, visiting the small towns where my grandparents grew up.
Lovely video, thanks for that.
Great video!! ^^
Hey, if you don’t mind me asking.. what is your least favorite place so far? Just curious since you are a traveler 🙂 and do you ever had hard times before??
(Well my mom always dreamed of traveling…so.. Yea.. XD)
Thank you! Hmmm, I don’t think I have a least favorite…I like going places that are super cultural and unique so places that are very developed or Westernized appeal to me less (I’m thinking of the new area of Panama City). You should definitely just start exploring and traveling though, you’ll love it!
