Imagine; a warm, sunny island that’s both a timeless classic and an endless summer. That’s Palm Beach Island in a nutshell…or should I say, a coconut shell?

Located just over the bridge from West Palm Beach; the beginning of South Florida, and just a couple hours drive from Fort Lauderdale, Miami, and Orlando. Not to mention, my original hometown of Jupiter, Florida, where celebs like Tiger Woods and Michael Jordan reside!

There’s no other easily-accessible island in the United States of America is filled with so much legendary history, so much elegance, and at the same time, so many fun things to do!

So if you want to take a classic trip in 2021 that will make you feel like a Kennedy or Audrey Hepburn on vacation, head to Palm Beach Island! Here’s a few things to help you plan your trip!

Palm Beach Island stretches a whopping 16 miles long, and barely 1 mile wide! There are several different areas to stay in depending on what you’d like to do! If you want to feel fancy and be close to icons like The Breakers and Worth Avenue, you’ll want to stay in the Northern End of the island. For a quieter, more chill vibe, head down South!

There are several hotel options on Palm Beach Island, but wouldn’t you prefer to stay at one rich in classic history? Que The Brazilian Court, one of the first of two hotels on the island built back in the 1920’s.

Tucked away in lush landscaping on Brazilian Court and Australian Avenue, this property has numerous reasons why it’s been an all-time favorite for celebrities and politicians for decades.

Aside from being an exquisite and posh luxury hotel, rumor has it that the elite also preferred it due to its many semi-hidden entrances and exits!

Some of my favorite highlights of The Brazilian Court besides the juicy history, were the extravagant rooms and courtyards, the tropical pool and scenery, and the walking proximity to the beach, Worth Avenue, and many trendy restaurants! Plus! They are one of the only hotels that allow dogs!

In fact, The Brazilian Court takes pet amenities to the next level by offering a “Bark Butler” now until the end of the year. It includes daily dog walking and spa services, and even a boat ride on “The Casablanca”. Or, for a more low key option, you can get their basic “Pet Package” that includes nightly town car service to Pucci and Catana Luxury Pet Boutique!

Where to Eat and Socialize in Palm Beach

Palm Beach Island today is well known for it’s incredible restaurants and posh social scene. Anywhere you go out, expect to see people dressed to the nines, whether it’s just for a regular dinner, or following a charity gala.

Here’s my suggestions starting from breakfast to dinner!

Breakfast:

Café Boulud Palm Beach: Located inside the Brazilian Court Hotel, this expansive restaurant is available for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. If you’re looking for a charming start to your day, definitely come for breakfast to enjoy exquisite food that matches the atmosphere! You can choose from the refined indoor breakfast room, or the opulent patio that overlooks the lush courtyard.

Bakery Loic: Come for the most delicious fresh baked French croissants you’ll ever taste, and stay for the epic banter with Chef Loic himself! I had the pleasure of tasting the pistachio with white chocolate drizzled croissant, along with a fresh recipe Chef Loic had made that morning; pecan filing with white chocolate drizzle and toasted pecans on top! Chef Loic also put me up to a sensory challenge when he asked me to close my eyes and say what I tasted as I bit into one of his famous cookies. The secret was a solid chocolate cookie that melts when it hits your mouth!

Lunch

Pizza al Fresco: A popular spot for all the locals, and no surprise why! The pizza is absolutely delicious and what better place to eat it than in a tucked away little plaza that might make you feel like you’re actually in Itlay! This is the perfect place to go after a day of shopping on Worth Avenue, or relaxing at the beach!

Dinner

Buccan: This place is always popping, whether you go for dinner or just drinks! That being said, be sure to make a reservation! The Ahi Tuna crisps are definitely a must, and since you’re in Florida, you should also definitely try one of the fish dishes! The menu changes but right now they   have a Grilled Pumpkin Swordfish!

Anything you try is sure to be excellent, since Chef Clay Conley is a four-time James Beard Award nominee for Best Chef of the South. He’s also credited for putting Palm Beach on the map as one of the best foodie destinations!

After dinner mingle at the popular bar at the front of the restaurant with a predominantly younger crowd!

Sant Ambroeus: If you love Italian food as much as I do, you MUST go to Sant Ambroeus, which serves authentic Milanese cuisine!! Located in the new Royal Poinciana Plaza, you can’t miss it when you see the adorable gelato stand out front! Enjoy a modern yet elegant dining experience, with food so tasty you might have to order seconds! At least I did with the creamed corn, which is a melty mix of farm fresh corn, black truffle, and parmesan. 

Other favorites include Vitello, Caprese, Risotti and Cotoletta alla Milanese, as well as some new dishes inspired by the sea and fresh ingredients of Florida.

According to Executive Chef Marco Barbisotti, “The menu focuses on seafood and incorporates local citruses and herbs to accentuate the fresh, luminous surroundings that encompass Palm Beach. Colorful salads with texture, grains and fruits highlight the simplicity of the local produce.”

Meat Market: As a Pescatarian, you may think it’s strange that I’m recommending a place called Meat Market. But to me it’s no secret that steak houses usually also house some of the best seafood! You won’t find many other places with the highest quality Florida Stone Crab Claws, that’s for sure! This place is definitely what I’d call a black-tie restaurant, so have fun getting dressed up in your best for it! Also, on Thursdays the bar and lounge area turn into a social hour, with the areas best DJ, Adam Lipson playing all your fave dance-worthy beats!

Drinks

All of the dinner restaurants listed above have lively bars for drinks and socializing, and there’s a few other upscale bars on the island as well! A classic favorite is the newly remodeled Cuccina’s, which quickly becomes packed as the night grows on. Another fairly new bar is HMF inside the prestigious The Breakers Hotel, where many fancy events are usually held!

Best Things to Do on Palm Beach Island

If you’re planning a warm winter vacation to Palm Beach Island, I’m going to guess you want to be getting some sun! Don’t worry, there are plenty of ways to enjoy it, plus a whole lot of other exciting things to do as well!

Head to The Beach

They don’t call it “Palm Beach” for nothing! Head east and you’ll find long stretches of white sandy beaches, without many crowds! To make a day out of it, stop by Publix first and get one of the famous Publix Subs to take for a picnic at the beach!

Stroll, Shop, and Sip on Worth Avenue

You’ll find some of the highest-end designer brands on Worth Avenue, as well as some quirky shops mixed in too! You’ll also find a brand new Lilly Pulitzer store that not only has a workshop in it for the print designers, but its very own cocktail bar as well!

Sip champagne as you browse the latest Lilly designs, or even create your own with the Shift-Dress design station! Did you know that Lilly Pulitzer lived on Palm Beach Island, and created the dresses as a solution to spilling juice on her clothes when she ran an orange juice stand? The Island Company is another shop on Worth Avenue with a bar in it, which they’re able to do since they own their own rum brand!

Cruise on a Yacht

There’s no better way to take in the views of the island…and the mega multi-million dollar homes and yachts…than from a cruise along intracoastal! There’s options for happy hour cruises or sunset cruises, and you can bring your own food and wine if you don’t want to buy it on board!

Go for a Bike Ride

Most hotels offer free bicycles like The Brazilian Court (theirs were even signature Lilly Pulitzer ones!), but if not, you can easily rent one! Across the bridge along the water you’ll see several bike racks with bicycles you can rent using a metered station! Stroll along the many quaint yet exquisite streets of the island, or along the beach path!

  • Before the term “influencer” or “content creator” existed, I was one of the original travel bloggers, unknowingly helping pioneer what is now a multibillion dollar Creator Industry. I helped transform solo female travel from taboo to trendy, and taught thousands of people how to work remotely and build a brand. I’ve done so much more than just create content, although hardly anyone sees the behind the scenes. And it’s been 14 years that I’ve owned the title of travel bloggers/influencer so… Allow me to re-introduce myself. I am Alyssa Ramos, the founder of My Life’s a Travel Movie brand, one of the very first travel “influencers” and one of the pioneers of the creator industry, of normalizing solo female travel today, of influencer-hosted group trips, and of getting paid to travel via social media! I started my blog in 2012, then started using social media to promote it in 2014, earning me the title of “influencer”but what was never fully seen was the entrepreneur behind it who helped create an entire new industry with no money and when hardly anyone believed it would work.   • I thought I was going to shipwreck trying to get to an existing shipwreck in the Solomon Islands…and I was traveling solo with just a fisherman driving me on his small boat. 😳 But! We made it, even with a massive storm approaching, and I experienced one of the most incredible “my life’s a travel movie” moments in my 12 years of continuous solo traveling!! I truly felt like I was in a movie! The ship is an old cruise ship that hit rocks and slowly sank as it washed ashore on Roderick’s Bay. It’s only half sunk, so you can swim around it (it’s super creepy and dangerous, don’t do it alone), and since it’s completely unregulated, you can also climb it and zip line into the water (also dangerous, can’t recommend) The angle of the ship also created one of the most vibrant marine sanctuaries I’ve seen in a while, with lots of actual colorful coral and fish (including clown fish!) I went to Solomon Islands after my second trip to Papua New Guinea, on my quest to slow solo travel to every country in the world. Would I go back to the shipwreck? Probably not. That boat ride was terrifying. But I’d go back to see more of the islands in the Solomon’s, there’s so many! Would you brave the ride to get to this shipwreck?   • D. R. Congo and Silverback Gorillas both have reputations for being extremely dangerous, and that’s true, to an extent. But hear me out. First a disclaimer: I am one of the most experienced solo female travelers in the world, and I also have a degree in Animal Science plus extensive experience with wild animals. All of my animal encounters are ethical, researched, and done with professionals. My goal is to promote responsible animal tourism that actually benefits and protects the animals, Don’t try to do any of them on your own! Ok so the Mountain Gorillas! Yes, they can be extremely dangerous! However, many of them have been socialized, and are therefore accepting of human visitors (and very curious) Gorilla trekking tourism is what protects these beautiful animals, because it generates more money to have them alive, so it forces the govs and other orgs to implement strict rules and anti-poaching efforts! In fact, these gorillas were almost poached to extinction before trekking became popular, and now most of the trackers (people paid to find the gorillas to trek to) are former poachers! I’ve gone gorilla trekking 5 times and it’s always a safe and beautiful experience (the trek is difficult though and can be up to 8 hours through thick jungle) Now about D.R. Congo…. Shortly after my first solo travels there, Virunga National Park closed and remains closed due to armed conflict with rebel groups..: I still went to visit Goma several more times, and I truly love Congo, but I will be waiting with anticipation for the safety to increase, because the gorillas in DRC were my top favorite see!   • I have a “bucketlist tattoo” that I add to when I complete a major bucketlist check! This one was a double check: seeing a wild Polar Bear and reaching my farthest latitude north (so far): 82 degrees North! For reference, the geographic North Pole is at 90 degrees North, so we were very close to it! Maybe one day I’ll reach it! There’s only one tattoo shop in Longyearbyen, therefore it’s officially the northernmost tattoo shop!   • This is my 3rd year being an American living on a vineyard in Italy (married the owner!) and I def have a lot of tea/wine to spill about it 😂 People have this dreamy or glamorous “Emily in Rome”-esque idea about traveling to Italy, falling in love, preferably with someone who owns a vineyard, and living happily ever after…well I did that, and it can be a bit more “difficile vita” than “dolce vita” at times!   • I’ve swam with Orcas, a crocodile, and my for-fun hobby is shark diving, but I draw the line at poisonous swimming snakes. 🙅‍♀️🐍 It really just came up to me like that when I was sitting on the beach on an island in New Caledonia! I had been contemplating going swimming with the turtles nearby, but changed my mind after I saw this! This was a “Blake-banded Sea Krait”, common to this area in the South Pacific Islands, I’ve heard several divers say they’ve seen them! But no thanks, I prefer sharks. 😂 Animal safety tip: as an experienced animal encounteress, i never ever suggest provoking or trying to “fight off” any dangerous animal that isn’t actively trying to attack you. Stay calm and still and let it pass like I did in this video. Then, feel free to run. (Jk I’d still suggest carefully and slowly backing a way, keeping an eye on it).   • I’ve stayed at over 500 hotels in my 12 years of traveling to around 20 countries per year, here’s 20 that absolutely blew my mind and I cannot forget!! Costs around $2-4k per night and doesn’t include the transfer to get to the island… Check out my Shebara blog post for full details! Probably the most bizarre hotel I’ve ever stayed at is this one in Turkmenistan. It’s known as “the wedding hotel” bc it’s where most people have their receptions, but the ground floor wing behind me is open for tourists….except, I was the only one there and it seemed like it had been empty for a while.. You can’t book hotels on your own in Turkmenistan, you have to take a tour and have a letter of invitation. Full blog post with that info too. I’m scheduled to return to Turkmenistan in October and also next year with @mylifesatraveltribe (sold out though, join the waitlist!) I never would have guessed I’d end up living on a vineyard and recalling @pacheca.group The Wine House as inspo for a future rental project!! These wine barrel rooms are in Portugal. Who thinks I should try to build some on our vineyard in Sardinia Italy? One of the bougiest hotel experiences is at @anantaramaiaseychelles ! The villas are beautiful but it was the 24/7 butler service that I can’t forget! The Seychelles was my 100th country, and they brought me enough wine bottles to write out the number in my private jacuzzi! One of my all time favorites is @tulia_zanzibar 😻 it’s one of the most beautiful, thoughtfully designed, sustainable resorts I’ve experienced, AND it has a water slide!   • Yes, that is a real, wild Crocodile. Yes, I swam with him (several times) Would you dare? This is Panchito the Crocodile, he lives alone in Casa Cenote which is close to Tulum. Crocs are not commonly found in cenotes (pronounced “seh-note-ay” and are deep fresh water reserves throughout the Yucatán peninsula ) and no one is really sure how he got there. Panchito is allegedly “friendly”, but it’s more like “unbothered until provoked”. Recently for the first time ever Panchito attacked a swimmer because some unintelligent people were throwing rocks at him to try to provoke a reaction for a video 😡 Even this last time when I was there, while I was freediving in the cenote, other tourists were loud and slashing at Panchito, causing him to interrupt his tanning session, jump into the water, and dive under the mangroves until the people were gone (I watched all of it and was honestly a bit scared when he came swimming towards me underwater). Anyway! If you want a unique wildlife experience, check out Casa Cenote but do not disturb Panchito!!! Or any wildlife! Animal karma is real! Before the term “influencer” or “content creator” existed, I was one of the original travel bloggers, unknowingly helping pioneer what is now a multibillion dollar Creator Industry. I helped transform solo female travel from taboo to trendy, and taught thousands of people how to work remotely and build a brand. I’ve done so much more than just create content, although hardly anyone sees the behind the scenes. I am Alyssa Ramos, the founder of My Life’s a Travel Movie brand, one of the very first travel “influencers” and one of the pioneers of the creator industry, of normalizing solo female travel today, of influencer-hosted group trips, and of getting paid to travel via social media! I started my blog in 2012, then started using social media to promote it in 2014, earning me the title of “influencer”but what was never fully seen was the entrepreneur behind it who helped create an entire new industry with no money and when hardly anyone believed it would work. So far I’ve been to over 150 countries (off the 197 list), all 7 continents (Antarctica 4x), and I average 20 countries per year. Now I’m going bigger. I’m launching a travel show, more speaker events, writing another book, and I’ve started the Travel Tribe Foundation to give back through my group trips. I thought I was going to shipwreck trying to get to an existing shipwreck in the Solomon Islands…and I was traveling solo with just a fisherman driving me on his small boat. 😳 But! We made it, even with a massive storm approaching, and I experienced one of the most incredible “my life’s a travel movie” moments in my 12 years of continuous solo traveling!! I truly felt like I was in a movie! The ship is an old cruise ship that hit rocks and slowly sank as it washed ashore on Roderick’s Bay. It’s only half sunk, so you can swim around it (it’s super creepy and dangerous, don’t do it alone), and since it’s completely unregulated, you can also climb it and zip line into the water (also dangerous, can’t recommend) The angle of the ship also created one of the most vibrant marine sanctuaries I’ve seen in a while, with lots of actual colorful coral and fish (including clown fish!) I went to Solomon Islands after my second trip to Papua New Guinea, on my quest to slow solo travel to every country in the world. Would I go back to the shipwreck? Probably not. That boat ride was terrifying. But I’d go back to see more of the islands in the Solomon’s, there’s so many! Would you brave the ride to get to this shipwreck? D. R. Congo and Silverback Gorillas both have reputations for being extremely dangerous, and that’s true, to an extent. But hear me out. First a disclaimer: I am one of the most experienced solo female travelers in the world, and I also have a degree in Animal Science plus extensive experience with wild animals. All of my animal encounters are ethical, researched, and done with professionals. My goal is to promote responsible animal tourism that actually benefits and protects the animals, Don’t try to do any of them on your own! Ok so the Mountain Gorillas! Yes, they can be extremely dangerous! However, many of them have been socialized, and are therefore accepting of human visitors (and very curious) Gorilla trekking tourism is what protects these beautiful animals, because it generates more money to have them alive, so it forces the govs and other orgs to implement strict rules and anti-poaching efforts! In fact, these gorillas were almost poached to extinction before trekking became popular, and now most of the trackers (people paid to find the gorillas to trek to) are former poachers! I’ve gone gorilla trekking 5 times and it’s always a safe and beautiful experience (the trek is difficult though and can be up to 8 hours through thick jungle) Now about D.R. Congo…. Shortly after my first solo travels there, Virunga National Park closed and remains closed due to armed conflict with rebel groups..: I still went to visit Goma several more times, and I truly love Congo, but I will be waiting with anticipation for the safety to increase, because the gorillas in DRC were my top favorite see! I have a “bucketlist tattoo” that I add to when I complete a major bucketlist check! This one was a double check: seeing a wild Polar Bear and reaching my farthest latitude north (so far): 82 degrees North! For reference, the geographic North Pole is at 90 degrees North, so we were very close to it! Maybe one day I’ll reach it! There’s only one tattoo shop in Longyearbyen, therefore it’s officially the northernmost tattoo shop! And I also have tattoos from the Southernmost tattoo shop in Ushuaia for my 4 trips to Antarctica! Anyone else have cool tattoos? ——————- For anyone new here: Hi! This is my 3rd year being an American living on a vineyard in Italy (married the owner!) and I def have a lot of tea/wine to spill about it 😂 People have this dreamy or glamorous “Emily in Rome”-esque idea about traveling to Italy, falling in love, preferably with someone who owns a vineyard, and living happily ever after…well I did that, and it can be a bit more “difficile vita” than “dolce vita” at times! I’ve swam with Orcas, a crocodile, and my for-fun hobby is shark diving, but I draw the line at poisonous swimming snakes. 🙅‍♀️🐍 It really just came up to me like that when I was sitting on the beach on an island in New Caledonia! I had been contemplating going swimming with the turtles nearby, but changed my mind after I saw this! This was a “Blake-banded Sea Krait”, common to this area in the South Pacific Islands, I’ve heard several divers say they’ve seen them! But no thanks, I prefer sharks. 😂 Animal safety tip: as an experienced animal encounteress, i never ever suggest provoking or trying to “fight off” any dangerous animal that isn’t actively trying to attack you. Stay calm and still and let it pass like I did in this video. Then, feel free to run. (Jk I’d still suggest carefully and slowly backing a way, keeping an eye on it). What would you do if you saw a swimming snake?! —————— For anyone new here: Hi! I never would have guessed I’d end up living on a vineyard and recalling @pacheca.group The Wine House as inspo for a future rental project!! These wine barrel rooms are in Portugal. Who thinks I should try to build some on our vineyard in Sardinia Italy? One of the bougiest hotel experiences is at @anantaramaiaseychelles ! The villas are beautiful but it was the 24/7 butler service that I can’t forget! The Seychelles was my 100th country, and they brought me enough wine bottles to write out the number in my private jacuzzi! One of my all time favorites is @tulia_zanzibar 😻 it’s one of the most beautiful, thoughtfully designed, sustainable resorts I’ve experienced, AND it has a water slide! Scotland surprised me a lot with its incredible hotel options! Namely, all of the castles! There’s so many of them!!! An incredibly u

Yes, that is a real, wild Crocodile. Yes, I swam with him (several times) Would you dare? This is Panchito the Crocodile, he lives alone in Casa Cenote which is close to Tulum. Crocs are not commonly found in cenotes (pronounced “seh-note-ay” and are deep fresh water reserves throughout the Yucatán peninsula ) and no one is really sure how he got there. Panchito is allegedly “friendly”, but it’s more like “unbothered until provoked”. Recently for the first time ever Panchito attacked a swimmer because some unintelligent people were throwing rocks at him to try to provoke a reaction for a video 😡 Even this last time when I was there, while I was freediving in the cenote, other tourists were loud and slashing at Panchito, causing him to interrupt his tanning session, jump into the water, and dive under the mangroves until the people were gone (I watched all of it and was honestly a bit scared when he came swimming towards me underwater). Anyway! If you want a unique wildlife experience, check out Casa Cenote but do not disturb Panchito!!! Or any wildlife! Animal karma is real!
