How to Make a Travel Photo Book!

I’ve always wanted to make a travel photo book, but never knew how or if I’d have the time. But, with over 2,000 travel photos on my Instagram, I start to forget about all the epic things I’ve done! Between the time it takes to load, the size of the screen, and the average attention span of 0.5 seconds, it’s no wonder that some of our best photos get forgotten.

That’s why I decided to finally make a coffee table travel photo book with all of my favorite travel photos and adventures! It was really easy to do using a company called MixBook, that offers pre-made book layouts or the option to make your own! It even allows you to easily import your photos from Instagram or anywhere else on your computer!

I almost cried when I saw the finished product, and all of my images and travels come to life on paper! MixBook isn’t just an amazing way to save and showcase your memories in person, but also would make for a truly meaningful gift for your favorite traveler!

It’s super easy to put together too, just follow my instructions below!

1. Choose the Travel Photos Book Optionturn photos into book mixbook

First you’ll need to set up a free account on Mixbook.com, then hover over the Photo Books tab to see the theme options. For the sake of this post, I’ll instruct you to select Travel Photo Books, but feel free to browse around the other options!

2. Select Your Template or Blank Book

There are some really nice pre-made layouts for the travel photo books that you can use, or you can start from a blank project and create your own! I decided to start from scratch, so I’ll show you how to do that next!

If you choose to use a template, you’ll still use the next steps for uploading your photos, but you don’t have to worry about the formatting!

3. Explore the MixBook Platform

Your travel photo book project will open up in a new window that’s MixBook‘s own platform studio! Your project will be in the middle along with the page navigation, and above it will be your tools for adding text, changing the theme, and adding/deleting pages.

At the top left you’ll find the tools to add photos, select layouts and backgrounds, and even add stickers!

4. Upload Your Travel Photos

The number one thing that made MixBook automatically better than any other travel photo book making company was that I could automatically upload from Instagram. I didn’t have to go digging through my thousands of computer files, or re-edit, I just simply selected my favorite ones from my IG feed!

You also have the option of uploading from Facebook, Google Drive, and even straight from your phone! Technology for the win!

5. Start Adding Photos and Designing!

Once your photos are loaded, all you need to do is fill the pages! If you’re using a template, these layouts will already be chosen for you. If you’re doing it on your own, you’ll want to choose the layout first (depending on amount of photos you want on each page), then a background, then add the photo(s).

You can also click the “Add Text” box to write on the pages. If you can’t see the text over the photos, go to the “Stickers” tab and select the square shape to use as a background.

TIP: Depending on the size of your travel photo book, the font will be way bigger in the book than it is on the screen! You can see what I mean in the next photo!

5. Preview, Save, and Send!

As soon as you preview and save your travel photo book, all you have to do is press send and it’ll be in your hands in no time! Mine only took a couple days to produce, and I selected next day shipping to get it to me faster! (Yes, I was that excited).

Now I can’t wait to make even more, and who knows, maybe I’ll even publish my book!

  • I've been waiting 2 years for this adventure in Pakistan, so after an 18 hour journey to get here, I hit the ground running! Sundays are mellow and a lot less crowded, so I got a relatively chill stroll through the Kotwali Wala Bazar, where I stopped for chai, bought too many pairs of shoes and bangles, and a free hand stamp henna! Then it was off to the famous Haveli rooftop restaurant in a former mansion overlooking the mosque and other religious sites, followed by another chai, a stop at the pharmacy in the dodgier area (picked up a cold in between trips), and finally back to a 5 star hotel i found for just $65 per night! Absolutely loving it so far, and I'm so grateful for my hosts @destinationpakistan who have been so patient with my constant travel changes and made up itineraries! Cannot wait to come back here with a group already, and i haven't even gotten to the mountains yet!!! I'm going to attempt daily posts, so please be sure to follow along if you're interested in seeing more! Also yes, so far I feel safe here as a solo female travelers, but let's see how it is on a crowded Monday and after that lovely little mountain flight on Tuesday! Anyone have Pakistan on their bucketlist??
  • Finally beat the budget airlines game!! This is for everyone who has ever gotten excited for a $20 flight in the EU, only to end up paying double for even a carryon! [Comment “travel” and I’ll DM you the link to my packing tutorial and all of these products!] For everyone who has tried to layer on as much as possible when they’re weighing bags, and who has had a mini melt down when they ask to place your bag in the measuring bin! I present to you, my top travel packing hacks as a full time travel professional: 1. Travel compression bags (now with portable pump) 2. Foldable toiletry bag with bare minimum necessities 3. Bags that sneakily expand 4. Convertible shoes This is all I packed for a 6 day trip to Venice, Mallorca, and a black tie wedding in Alicante! And if I can do it, so can you, becaaauussee I’m a former live-out-of-giant-suitcase gal from my decade as a nomad, but now with a home base in Italy (and Mexico), I’ve adapted to “bring as little as possible since you go back home”, both for convenience and to avoid thousands of dollars in baggage fees each year! Do you think you could manage with a personal item only?? Are you a checked bag person or carry on only?

  • The only times you don’t need an eSIM while traveling are when you literally cannot be holding a phone 😂 For all other times, easily download an eSIM like AloSIM which are really affordable at just a few dollars per day or less versus the typical $10 for international roaming!   • Traveling was not a possibility for me when I was younger, yet now I’ve reached my 150th country (out of the 197 list which includes Kosovo)!! It has taken me 12 years, I’ve done most of them solo, and many have been collaborations that I received or pitched, but anything else, including most flights was solely paid for by myself, and here’s how I did it: (But first! Comment “TRAVEL” and I’ll send you links to my tips for making money while traveling, how to play flight roulette, and also this Balkans roadtrip itinerary!) 14 years ago - I started my blog but it didn’t make much money for a couple years. I used my only money and a credit card to take my first trip. I was one of the first people to pitch the concept of “free trips in exchange for social media posts” and I sent hundreds of them, always landing at least one, but there was still so much to see! With the money I earned from my blog, paid posts, and my writing for other platforms, I’d go travel but I’d play what I called “flight roulette”, where I pick “anywhere” as the destination, and choose the cheapest flight to somewhere I hadn’t been yet! As my business grew, I needed to repeat many countries each time year, and now I still travel to an average of 25 countries per year as a traveler-by-trade (influencer/entrepreneur), with the goal of 5-10 new ones each year. I never thought I’d reach all 197 countries…but now that there’s only 47 left…do I attempt it?!?! As for making money to travel - I have a lot of posts on that and also a course, which teaches techniques for everyone, not just those wanting to be a creator! And for anyone who DOES want to be a creator or group trip host — my biggest advice is to find a niche personal to you, find your specific audience who can relate, and don’t just copy other people’s techniques, create new ones and stand out!   • Traveled solo in China earlier this year and became slightly obsessed! Out of the now 150 countries I’ve been to, I think it might actually be in my top 10! That’s why I had to add it to our group trips! With the money I earned from my blog, paid posts, and my writing for other platforms, I’d go travel but I’d play what I called “flight roulette”, where I pick “anywhere” as the destination, and choose the cheapest flight to somewhere I hadn’t been yet! As my business grew, I needed to repeat many countries each time year, and now I still travel to an average of 25 countries per year as a traveler-by-trade (influencer/entrepreneur), with the goal of 5-10 new ones each year. I never thought I’d reach all 197 countries…but now that there’s only 47 left…do I attempt it?!?! As for making money to travel - I have a lot of posts on that and also a course, which teaches techniques for everyone, not just those wanting to be a creator! And for anyone who DOES want to be a creator or group trip host — my biggest advice is to find a niche personal to you, find your specific audience who can relate, and don’t just copy other people’s techniques, create new ones and stand out! Traveling was not a possibility for me when I was younger, yet now I’ve reached my 150th country (out of the 197 list which includes Kosovo)!! It has taken me 12 years, I’ve done most of them solo, and many have been collaborations that I received or pitched, but anything else, including most flights was solely paid for by myself, and here’s how I did it: (But first! I used my only money and a credit card to take my first trip. I was one of the first people to pitch the concept of “free trips in exchange for social media posts” and I sent hundreds of them, always landing at least one, but there was still so much to see!
