For the Love of Food and Fashion in Jackson!

Breathtaking sights to see, bubbly social scenes, and an all around feeling of a city with soul are just a few of the qualities that make Jackson, Mississippi a gem to visit!

But one thing that really stood out on top of all of that, was the incredible food and fashion that I found all over Jackson! From gourmet southern dishes to the highest stacked pizza toppings I’ve ever seen, and from denim dresses to designer sets on the fashion scene, the food and fashion definitely played a big role in my incredible trip there!

Before heading out to explore, I stopped by a couple local boutiques to pick up some new outfits for my trip. These adorable shops did not disappoint with their trendy options for ensembles!

Then it was off to a food and wine event in the Railroad District called Taste of Mississippi, which featured Jackson’s best restaurants while also benefiting a local charity! This was a phenomenal way to get a taste for my options for dining the rest of the week!

After that week of dining and shopping, here are my top picks for food and fashion in Jackson!

Shopping:

Treehouse Boutique

This adorable, unique, high-end clothing boutique is set up in an actual former house! It’s complete with chandeliers and decorations that almost make you feel like you’re in a super fancy doll house, except for the fact that it’s filled with designer clothing!

Another thing I found unique about this shop was some of the jewelry pieces they were selling; they were almost identical to ones I had recently purchased from a Masai tribe in Kenya! I also saw a few pieces that are currently all the rage in Bali, which means Treehouse Boutique has a great eye for international flare!

Blithe and Vine

This bright and trendy boutique has a mixture of funky and chic attire, ranging from silk dresses to hand painted Converses! There were also many denim pieces which to me represented the South, so I opted for a few of those in addition to the flirty silk dress!

Also, in between Blithe and Vine and Treehouse Boutique are two pairs of street art wings that you can take photos with wearing your new clothes!

Thimblepress

Not a clothing boutique, but I’d definitely still consider it “fashion” since it’s where you can get the most stylish stationery around! Created by the amazing and creative female entrepreneur, Kristen, this little shop has a lot of behind the scenes action going on as it also functions as her main product headquarters!

As a blogger I’m a sucker for all things creative and useful, so I had to pick up several of her artsy notepads, calendars, and even a Daydreamers journal! She also has these really fun things she invented called “confetti pops”, which as the name implies, creates an explosion of confetti when you push the pop up!

You can also find her awesome stuff in places like Target and Urban Outfitters!

Best Restaurants:

Parlor Market

Parlor Market got bonus points with me because the head Chef (Chaz) let me go back into the kitchen and attempt cooking something! Well, not “something”, actually it was a super rare type of leek that can only be foraged (AKA found in the wild) and only grows a couple months per year!

Before my little Top Chef Jackson class though, I was presented with the local Mississippi Redfish which he special-made for me in a buttery sauce along with the same leeks and peas. He also made me the seasonal special salad with all greens and vegetables locally grown!

The food, atmosphere, and especially service were all on point! In fact I ended up spending longer than I was supposed to there, kind of like I’m accidentally already writing too much about it here!

Saltine

Said to be one of the favorite restaurants in town in the Fondren area, but to be honest I only got a small sampling of it at the Mississippi Food Festival (which I’m totally fine with!). Looking at the menu though I can see why it’s always recommended! With a large selection of southern dishes as well as tons of Oysters!

CAET Wine Bar

CAET is more of a wine bar, but it does also have a dining area and delicious food! I ordered a really good seared Yellowtail tuna dish, and glass of Chardonnay and both were amazing. The atmosphere is lively and fun, and it seemed like everyone at the bar wanted to chat!

Their collection of wine is exquisite and extensive, and they even have certain selections “on tap”! CAET is also located in the Fondren area, right next to Saltine and also where my salsa classes were!

La Brioche

Tasty pastries that are the Pinterest-lovers dream! La Brioche just opened inside of the Mississippi Museum of Art (the main location is in Fondren), and makes for a great start or end to a day of art-gazing! I ordered the palm sized strawberry shortcake and some colorful macarons, which of course I had to eat in the beautiful outdoor lawn and garden area!

 The Pizza Shack

Don’t let the name or exterior of this small pizza joint fool you! It’s a little place with a BIG offering of heaping toppings on deep dish pizza! Mine had to have been at least three inches tall including the crust and my selection of toppings!

You can get a specialty pizza or pick your own like I did, which included pineapple, black olive, red onion, and gouda cheese! You can have it to go or dine in the small but adorable old-fashioned pizza diner!

Deep South Pops

Not exactly a restaurant unless you count popsicles as a meal…which I do, so I’m going to list it anyway! This is one place I just can’t stop talking about because of how unique and awesome it is!

Essentially the concept is to take one of their delicious homemade popsicles, and dip it into either soda, beer, or even coffee, to mix the flavors together for an unforgettable treat! I of course had to taste test several variations, and can definitely report that the beer-pops were the best!

I’m not even a beer drinker, but the local blonde ale they gave me mixed with the strawberry-blood orange popsicle was incredible! As in, there’s a good chance I’ll never drink another beer again without a popsicle in it!

This is just a taste of what you can find in Jackson! I’m definitely going to have to plan a trip back to check out the rest of the shops and restaurants! If you have any other recommendations for Food and Fashion in Jackson, please comment them below!
