Nozawa Bar in Sugarfish – Beverly Hills

Chances are that if you live in LA, frequent LA, or are a food connoisseur, you have heard of the legendary Chef Nozawa and his ridiculously amazing restaurant chain of the best sushi you’ll ever eat, Sugarfish.

I knew the story behind Chef Nozawa, I was told it many times when I visited the Sugarfish in Studio City (the original location), Beverly Hills, and Santa Monica, I did not know, however, that they offered private tastings by a Master Chef (and long time friend of Chef Nozawa) Osamu Fujita.

Apparently it’s a really big deal. My friends who made the reservation and who often travel to LA and Miami for work warned me to be ready by 7pm and to come hungry, but I had no idea what they were talking about, I could eat sushi for days if I wanted to. I was wrong. So very, very, deliciously wrong.

Reservations must be made a month or more in advance, and my friends informed me that they literally book the exclusive Nozawa Bar that only seats 12 maximum, at the same time they book their plane tickets.

When we arrived, we were led past the normal dining area of Sugarfish on Canon Drive in Beverly Hills, and brought back to a heavy wooden door that said “Employees Only”. Behind the door was an L-shaped sushi bar with exactly 12 seats, and Chef Fujita behind it looking incredibly intimidating in his tall white chef’s hat and fierce expression, flanked by his two right hand men.

Nozawa BarWe were presented with thin rectangular menus, but not to order from – to see what we would be served during the two hour-long course. The menu described in detail what we would be served, and which dishes were recommended to eat without soy sauce…not that it was necessary, since the two assistants would whisper “No soy sauce please” as they served certain dishes.

Just thinking about it now is making my mouth water, and there’s a good chance I’ll go get sushi for dinner tonight. I don’t even know how to begin to explain the pieces of top grade, perfectly sliced seafood, atop of warm, fluffy rice, that all seemed to just melt in my mouth the moment it went in. …that is, the ones that I could get in…my rice kept falling apart because it was so melty, but luckily, the table attendant would immediately wipe up any fallen food before the Chef could see and get mad. Rumors are that people have been kicked out for not eating properly!

The menu is subject to change, but here are all of the interesting and yummy items that we got to sample:

  • Traveling was not a possibility for me when I was younger, yet now I’ve reached my 150th country (out of the 197 list which includes Kosovo)!! It has taken me 12 years, I’ve done most of them solo, and many have been collaborations that I received or pitched, but anything else, including most flights was solely paid for by myself, and here’s how I did it:

(But first! Comment “TRAVEL” and I’ll send you links to my tips for making money while traveling, how to play flight roulette, and also this Balkans roadtrip itinerary!)

14 years ago - I started my blog but it didn’t make much money for a couple years. I used my only money and a credit card to take my first trip.

I was one of the first people to pitch the concept of “free trips in exchange for social media posts” and I sent hundreds of them, always landing at least one, but there was still so much to see!

With the money I earned from my blog, paid posts, and my writing for other platforms, I’d go travel but I’d play what I called “flight roulette”, where I pick “anywhere” as the destination, and choose the cheapest flight to somewhere I hadn’t been yet!

As my business grew, I needed to repeat many countries each time year, and now I still travel to an average of 25 countries per year as a traveler-by-trade (influencer/entrepreneur), with the goal of 5-10 new ones each year.

I never thought I’d reach all 197 countries…but now that there’s only 47 left…do I attempt it?!?!

You can see all the countries I’ve been to and written about on my blog using the clickable map on the home page of mylifesamovie.com, or the menu that’s categorized by destination!

As for making money to travel - I have a lot of posts on that and also a course, which teaches techniques for everyone, not just those wanting to be a creator!

And for anyone who DOES want to be a creator or group trip host — my biggest advice is to find a niche personal to you, find your specific audience who can relate, and don’t just copy other people’s techniques, create new ones and stand out! Originality is admirable!! 😁

Thank you everyone who has stayed on this looonnggg journey with me! I can’t

  • The only reasons you should NOT get an eSIM are if you enjoy searching for wifi, paying more for roaming, or you really want to disconnect 😜

But if you want to make your trip easier, just download an app like @alosim_app and get an affordable data plan, install it in seconds, and then it'll activate as soon as you arrive!

No sketchy airport wifi required.

Comment "esim" and I'll send you my step by step guide for how to use one, and you can also use TRAVELMOVIE for an extra discount!

Note: your phone must be unlocked to use an eSIM!

Btw can you tell I’m wearing an “Avatar” outfit doing the zip line in the Avatar Mountains? 🤓

I’ll also be curious to see if we can recreate my Great Wall of China pics with no people from when I was there almost 10 years ago…before people-remover was a basic editing feature!
  • I prefer the word “adventurous”. Would you do this? Read first for context!

This is the notorious “Devil’s Pool” at the top of Victoria Falls, on the border of Zambia and Zimbabwe!

I will not tell you it’s not dangerous or that it’s safe, just that the locals have created a safe-as-possible experience here that allows you to swim in this pool due to the steep and wide lip of the falls.

So it’s not just a river that ends over the edge, it first goes in a deep pool, which would stop any large object, like a human, from going over the edge.

There are ropes involved and also someone is holding onto your foot when you’re at the edge… I’ll show that BTS next!

I’ve done this 3 times and it’s definitely a thrill! It’s also freezing and my main fear was the crocodiles and hippos that also live in the Zambezi River!

Follow for more unique adventures from 150+ countries of solo female traveling!
  • No salt, sharks, or crowds at this crystal clear "beach" in North Macedonia!

That's because it's a lake! Lake Ohrid is famous for European vacations and it's pretty affordable there as well!

Commend "Balkans" and I'll send you my full customized roadtrip itinerary for here and some of the other Balkans like Kosovo, Albania, and Montenegro!

Traveled solo in China earlier this year and became slightly obsessed! Out of the now 150 countries I’ve been to, I think it might actually be in my top 10!

That’s why I had to add it to our group trips! We are officially 1 year away from our Zhangjiajie - Chongqing - Beijing/Shanghai group adventure with just a few spots left!

***Comment “China” and I’ll send you the trip info, and also an option to see my general blog post about it with tips (but PLZ don’t copy it for business purposes 🙏)

If you’re on my level of adventure-obsessed, this is definitely the trip for you! It includes all of my favorite activities I did, like the Skyscraper Rappelling, Cloud Walk and Swing, Motorcycle video shoot, and alllllll the Avatar mountain things!

I’ll also be curious to see if we can recreate my Great Wall of China pics with no people from when I was there almost 10 years ago…before people-remover was a basic editing feature!

I prefer the word “adventurous”.

No salt, sharks, or crowds at this crystal clear "beach" in North Macedonia! That's because it's a lake! Lake Ohrid is famous for European vacations and it's pretty affordable there as well! Commend "Balkans" and I'll send you my full customized roadtrip itinerary for here and some of the other Balkans like Kosovo, Albania, and Montenegro! ------- Follow @mylifesatravelmovie , one of the first original solo travel "influencers" for tips and info on unique, rare, and misunderstood destinations!
