If you’re looking for holiday gifts for pets that travel, sit, stay, and go fetch! Corny joke, but anyway! One of the upsides of 2020 has been that I’ve been staying in one spot more often. Which also means I’ve been able to travel with my dog Oscar!

I’ve discovered that having pets that travel is a lot easier than I thought. It just requires some extra research, paperwork, OH! And some fun little toys and treats to keep them calm, healthy, and entertained!

In fact, so far I have brought Oscar to Banff, Yosemite, Joshua Tree, and he’s currently road tripping with me all over the Yucatan in Mexico! Be sure to follow him on Instagram (@mylifesatravelpup) for pet travel tips!

Favorite Holiday Gifts for Pets that Travel: Snuffle Mat

This miniature shag rug called the Snuffle Mat by Paw 5 is all the rage right now! It’s designed to encourage natural foraging skills, and keep your pup busy for a while, by hiding treats inside of it! If you have a dog that’s a fast eater, this will also help slow them down by hiding the kibbles in it!

To be completely honest, Oscar thinks it’s his own personal rug, and loves to lay on it all day! He also plays with it like a toy! I’ll be putting it in his carrier for the next plane ride too!

CBD for Dogs

Something that’s also all the rage these days (including with humans) is therapeutic and medicinal CBD!

If you have an anxious, hyper, or attachment-issues-dog (like I do), you may want to look into the Honest Paws Calm line! Oscar is great at keeping quiet while flying, but he stands up the whole time because he’s anxious, so something like this definitely helps!

Dog Swaddle Carrier

Yes, this might look absolutely ridiculous to some people. BUT! If you’re an active traveler, or have an anxious dog, this dog swaddle works wonders! I use it when hiking or camping since my dog is very small and gets tired often.

It also works well while riding a bike, or even in the car if you want to keep them calm on your lap!

Emotional Support Animal Certification

Speaking of anxiety, if you legitimately have it, or any other mental health disorder, you can get your dog certified as an emotional support animal! Be sure to do it through a legitimate program like CertaPet, which requires you to have a call with an actual therapist for evaluation.

Once you are approved by a therapist, you will get an official letter stating that your pet is an ESA. You can use it to fly with your pet on your lap, and without having to pay a fee! You can also use it to stay at places that aren’t normally pet friendly!

The ultimate double win for holiday gifts for pets that travel AND their owners is GREENIES! For some reason dogs are obsessed with them, and that’s great, because they clean their teeth! They also make their breath fresh! Yay!

Non-Rawhide Bones

One of the many things I learned back in the day when I was a vet tech, was that raw hide is very bad for dogs! It’s hard to digest and can get stuck in their intestines! This was sad news, because my dog LOVES those little bones!

So I found a solution! Non-Rawhide SmartBones that are safe for your dog! They will keep them entertained for hours too! I always put one in Oscar’s carrier when we are on flights to distract him. It also helps pop his ears!

Shark Fin Life Vest

If you’re traveling somewhere where there’s water, you need this adorable shark fin life vest! One of my biggest fears is my dog falling in water and drowning (since he tries to follow me literally everywhere), so I just stick this life vest on him for peace of mind! Plus, it’s REALLY cute!

For travelers who love the beach, but it may be a bit too hot for doggo, there’s these doggie tents! I’ve tried using umbrellas, but found these mini tents work a lot better, and make my pup feel more comfortable. They also work in cold weather destinations as well, especially if you don’t want them getting your tent dirty!

Easy Holiday Gifts for Pets that Travel: Pet Wipes

If you’re staying in hotels with your pet, or if your pet sleeps in the bed with you in general, you should always have EarthRated pet wipes! You’d be shocked at how dirty their little feet get when walking outside! Pet wipes are specially formulated to be gentle on their paws while cleaning and moisturizing them!

These are also great for dogs that always get tear stains, or that like to roll around on the floor! Plus they’re plant based and compostable!

Slow Treater

If you want to distract your pet, especially for a bath, check out this Slow Treater! You can put treats or peanut butter in it, stick it to the wall, and distract them while you bathe or brush them!

FURminator is the most notorious brand for pet brushes! It was first to come out with an easy tool to help get rid of loose undercoat fur to prevent shedding! If you have a pet that sheds, you definitely need one of these!

Or, if your dog doesn’t shed (like mine!) but you need a good option to still comb thick undercoat fur, check out the brush on the left, which is what I use!

I have a couple of friends who have the Furbo Dog Camera, and they absolutely love it! Might even be addicted to it! If you miss your doggo while you’re out exploring, or are worried about what they might get up to while alone, this gadget is for you!

You can see the area you set it up in at any time, and you can even talk to your pet through it! Best of all, you can throw treats to your dog from it just by tapping a button on your phone!

Collapsible Food & Water Bowls

This new foldable-top water bowl attached to a water bottle is also all the rage right now. I personally use collapsible food and water bowls (and bring a separate water bottle) but this product comes with all of it!

  • I've been waiting 2 years for this adventure in Pakistan, so after an 18 hour journey to get here, I hit the ground running! Sundays are mellow and a lot less crowded, so I got a relatively chill stroll through the Kotwali Wala Bazar, where I stopped for chai, bought too many pairs of shoes and bangles, and a free hand stamp henna! Then it was off to the famous Haveli rooftop restaurant in a former mansion overlooking the mosque and other religious sites, followed by another chai, a stop at the pharmacy in the dodgier area (picked up a cold in between trips), and finally back to a 5 star hotel i found for just $65 per night! Absolutely loving it so far, and I'm so grateful for my hosts who have been so patient with my constant travel changes and made up itineraries! Cannot wait to come back here with a group already, and i haven't even gotten to the mountains yet!!! I'm going to attempt daily posts, so please be sure to follow along if you're interested in seeing more! Also yes, so far I feel safe here as a solo female travelers, but let's see how it is on a crowded weekday and after that lovely little mountain flight to Skardu! Anyone have Pakistan on their bucketlist??

Many people have asked if I feel scared or tell me to be careful, and I truly appreciate the concern! I probably wouldnt have traveled here alone if i didnt have 12 years of solo travel experience, and maybe that's why the universe led me here now, but it has felt safe, and I always travel with extreme caution, awareness, and vigilance, and i recommend the same to everyone anywhere you go! So far I've been treated with kindness and respect, and have gotten a lot of love from all of you proud Pakistanis on here, and I thank you so much for that! Now about these beautiful places! I had dejavu in Lahore, recognizing the style of the mosques from those I've seen so many times in India, and then I got a nice history and geography lesson to learn that it's because both countries were all once ruled by the same Moghul empire, which is where this architecture comes from, and why it may remind some of you of the Taj Mahal! The red structure is the Badshahi Mosque, and the last photo is a sneak peak of the ornate Wazir Khan Mosque! The photo with the Pakistani family is probably my favorite - they asked me for a photo, so I asked for one as well! Which is your favorite photo?   • Finally beat the budget airlines game!! This is for everyone who has ever gotten excited for a $20 flight in the EU, only to end up paying double for even a carryon! [Comment “travel” and I’ll DM you the link to my packing tutorial and all of these products!] For everyone who has tried to layer on as much as possible when they’re weighing bags, and who has had a mini melt down when they ask to place your bag in the measuring bin! I present to you, my top travel packing hacks as a full time travel professional: 1. Travel compression bags (now with portable pump) 2. Foldable toiletry bag with bare minimum necessities 3. Bags that sneakily expand 4. Convertible shoes This is all I packed for a 6 day trip to Venice, Mallorca, and a black tie wedding in Alicante! And if I can do it, so can you, becaaauussee I’m a former live-out-of-giant-suitcase gal from my decade as a nomad, but now with a home base in Italy (and Mexico), I’ve adapted to “bring as little as possible since you go back home”, both for convenience and to avoid thousands of dollars in baggage fees each year!   • T-minus 2 weeks till I return to the ‘Stan’s of Central Asia, but instead of solo, this time with 16 brave adventurous souls from our Travel Tribe Group Adventures Community!   • Traveling was not a possibility for me when I was younger, yet now I’ve reached my 150th country (out of the 197 list which includes Kosovo)!! It has taken me 12 years, I’ve done most of them solo, and many have been collaborations that I received or pitched, but anything else, including most flights was solely paid for by myself, and here’s how I did it: (But first! Comment “TRAVEL” and I’ll send you links to my tips for making money while traveling, how to play flight roulette, and also this Balkans roadtrip itinerary!) 14 years ago - I started my blog but it didn’t make much money for a couple years. I used my only money and a credit card to take my first trip. I was one of the first people to pitch the concept of “free trips in exchange for social media posts” and I sent hundreds of them, always landing at least one, but there was still so much to see! With the money I earned from my blog, paid posts, and my writing for other platforms, I’d go travel but I’d play what I called “flight roulette”, where I pick “anywhere” as the destination, and choose the cheapest flight to somewhere I hadn’t been yet! As my business grew, I needed to repeat many countries each time year, and now I still travel to an average of 25 countries per year as a traveler-by-trade (influencer/entrepreneur), with the goal of 5-10 new ones each year. I never thought I’d reach all 197 countries…but now that there’s only 47 left…do I attempt it?!?! As for making money to travel - I have a lot of posts on that and also a course, which teaches techniques for everyone, not just those wanting to be a creator! I've been waiting 2 years for this adventure in Pakistan, so after an 18 hour journey to get here, I hit the ground running! Sundays are mellow and a lot less crowded, so I got a relatively chill stroll through the Kotwali Wala Bazar, where I stopped for chai, bought too many pairs of shoes and bangles, and a free hand stamp henna! Then it was off to the famous Haveli rooftop restaurant in a former mansion overlooking the mosque and other religious sites, followed by another chai, a stop at the pharmacy in the dodgier area (picked up a cold in between trips), and finally back to a 5 star hotel i found for just $65 per night! Absolutely loving it so far, and I'm so grateful for my hosts @destinationpakistan who have been so patient with my constant travel changes and made up itineraries! Cannot wait to come back here with a group already, and i haven't even gotten to the mountains yet!!! I'm going to attempt daily posts, so please be sure to follow along if you're interested in seeing more! Also yes, so far I feel safe here as a solo female travelers, but let's see how it is on a crowded Monday and after that lovely little mountain flight on Tuesday! I've been waiting 2 years for this adventure in Pakistan, so after an 18 hour journey to get here, I hit the ground running! Finally beat the budget airlines game!! This is for everyone who has ever gotten excited for a $20 flight in the EU, only to end up paying double for even a carryon! [Comment “travel” and I’ll DM you the link to my packing tutorial and all of these products!] For everyone who has tried to layer on as much as possible when they’re weighing bags, and who has had a mini melt down when they ask to place your bag in the measuring bin! I present to you, my top travel packing hacks as a full time travel professional: 1. Travel compression bags (now with portable pump) 2. Foldable toiletry bag with bare minimum necessities 3. Bags that sneakily expand 4. Convertible shoes This is all I packed for a 6 day trip to Venice, Mallorca, and a black tie wedding in Alicante! And if I can do it, so can you, becaaauussee I’m a former live-out-of-giant-suitcase gal from my decade as a nomad, but now with a home base in Italy (and Mexico), I’ve adapted to “bring as little as possible since you go back home”, both for convenience and to avoid thousands of dollars in baggage fees each year! Traveling was not a possibility for me when I was younger, yet now I’ve reached my 150th country (out of the 197 list which includes Kosovo)!! It has taken me 12 years, I’ve done most of them solo, and many have been collaborations that I received or pitched, but anything else, including most flights was solely paid for by myself, and here’s how I did it: (But first! Comment “TRAVEL” and I’ll send you links to my tips for making money while traveling, how to play flight roulette, and also this Balkans roadtrip itinerary!) 14 years ago - I started my blog but it didn’t make much money for a couple years. I used my only money and a credit card to take my first trip. I was one of the first people to pitch the concept of “free trips in exchange for social media posts” and I sent hundreds of them, always landing at least one, but there was still so much to see! With the money I earned from my blog, paid posts, and my writing for other platforms, I’d go travel but I’d play what I called “flight roulette”, where I pick “anywhere” as the destination, and choose the cheapest flight to somewhere I hadn’t been yet! As my business grew, I needed to repeat many countries each time year, and now I still travel to an average of 25 countries per year as a traveler-by-trade (influencer/entrepreneur), with the goal of 5-10 new ones each year. I never thought I’d reach all 197 countries…but now that there’s only 47 left…do I attempt it?!?! You can see all the countries I’ve been to and written about on my blog using the clickable map on the home page of mylifesamovie.com, or the menu that’s categorized by destination! As for making money to travel - I have a lot of posts on that and also a course, which teaches techniques for everyone, not just those wanting to be a creator!
