5 Reasons Why Every Solo Traveler Needs to Try Hostelworld

How to have free accomodation while traveling

As a 6 year veteran solo traveler, I get tons of questions for advice and tips for new solo travelers preparing to take their first trips, and I get SO excited for them!

Solo travel is one of the most epic, eye-opening experiences you can give yourself, and I only wish I had someone who could have told me that sooner! That’s why I’m so happy to share everything I know, and encourage everyone to take the leap!

But of course I know that’s easier said than done. If you’re a first time solo traveler, you probably have tons of questions and concerns! Some of the main things I get asked is about where to go, stay, how to meet people, and about safety, and I automatically think of Hostelworld for first time solo travelers.

Here’s five reasons why I’d recommend that every solo traveler needs to try Hostelworld!

1. Safe, Secure, Affordable Bookings on Hostelworld

Most solo traveler’s main concerns with traveling alone is safety and expenses. For someone just starting out with travel, expensive hotels are not ideal, which is where affordable hostels come into play.

Hostels can get a bad reputation though thanks to movies and the inevitable properties that live down to those expectations, but with Hostelworld you won’t have to worry about being unpleasantly surprised.

When you book a hostel through Hostelworld, you have access to millions of reviews from real travelers just like you! You’ll also get instant confirmation and 24/7 customer support to help ensure your plans are all in place!

Plus, wait till you see how CHEAP it is to stay at hostels!

2. Hostels are the Best Places to Meet Other Travelers

I met a group of travelers from Malaysia by staying at a hostel in Thailand!

Another concern I hear a lot about traveling solo: “Doesn’t it get lonely?” My answer is always an all-caps “NO!”, and I can’t emphasize that enough!

You have to remember; you aren’t the only one traveling alone! Thousands and thousands of people are traveling solo at all times, so the question instead should just be where to find them!

I always say that hostels are one of the best places to meet other solo travelers, since that’s where most stay and hang out! Don’t be shy to say hello! Most travelers staying in hostels WANT to meet others!

3. You’ll Get the Inside Scoop on Things to Do

When you stay in hostels, there’s a good chance the people working there are young locals with lots of insight on best things to do. There’s usually an announcement board as well with activities and tours the hostel offers that you can join with other solo travelers staying there.

Then of course there’s usually tons of people hanging out in the common areas making plans to see the area or who have already seen it and can give you tips! Many people are also usually looking for people to add to a tour they want to do for a better price!

Plus, it’s inevitable that you’ll hear all about the nightlife hotspots from people at your hostel!

4. You Can Find Others to Travel With and Travel More

Every time a group of solo travelers comes together, at least two are bound to keep traveling together!

During my very first hostel experience in Thailand, I was sitting alone at the bar at Pak Up in Krabi, when a few people insisted I join their card game. When I asked how everyone knew each other, they had all said they met in hostels in another country, and were continuing on traveling together!

If you’re the type of solo traveler who’s looking for other people to travel with, you’ll definitely find them at a hostel! You may even end up finding your future husband or wife!

Whether you’re determined to stay a solo traveler or want to travel with others, staying in hostels will help you travel more either way. Once you see how cheap, easy, and fun it is to use Hostelworld, you won’t be able to stop!

5. You Can Choose Your Budget and Comfort Levels

Does the thought of staying in a dorm with other people you don’t know make you a little nervous? Not to worry! If your budget allows for it, you can choose a hostel that has private rooms as well!

When searching on Hostelworld, you can see on the thumbnails for the properties if they offer privates, and how much they start from. They’re usually ALWAYS cheaper than a private hotel room, so it’s an amazing way to stay within your budget and comfort levels!

In fact I had an epic private room in Cambodia near Siem Reap at a hostel called Lub D for only $30! Not bad at all especially considering how nice the pool and restaurant areas were as well!

Also, if quirky accommodations are your thing, you’ll definitely love staying at a Hostelworld hostel! Just have a browse at some of the options in Thailand and you’ll see what I mean!
