2 Day Fort Lauderdale Staycation Itinerary

Fort Lauderdale is the perfect middle point between Palm Beach and Miami! For something a little more fast paced than Palm Beach, but not as crazy as MIA, this is truly the perfect middle ground!

From boats that coast through intertwining intracoastals, to fun and fine dining, Fort Lauderdale has it all! Plus, hotels around this area of South Florida are a bang for your buck!

Most people spend just a couple days in Fort Lauderdale, so if you’re looking for a quick trip, here’s a two day itinerary!

Day 1 in Fort Lauderdale:

Arrive at Your Hotel in Ft. Lauderdale


There’s a wide range of hotel options in Ft. Lauderdale, so where you stay should depend on what you like to do! If you’re a beach lover, stay closer to the shore. But if you like lively cities and nightlife, definitely go with Las Olas Boulevard!

Wherever you choose, you’ll quickly realize it is quite easy to get around! So check in, freshen up, and get ready for a fun day in the sun!

Head to Ft. Lauderdale Beach

Naturally, the first thing you probably want to do in Fort Lauderdale, is go to the beach! Pack some reef friendly sunscreen, plenty of water, and walk or ride-share there!

The best areas to catch some rays are the actual “Ft. Lauderdale Beach” or you can go a bit further to Hollywood Beach. Around these areas you can also find some shops and restaurants as well. You can choose to have lunch at one of them, or pack some snacks from a grocery store and have a picnic on the beach!

Freshen Up and Head to Happy Hour on Las Olas Boulevard!

After a long day at the beach, head back to your hotel to freshen up! Set plenty of time aside in case a nap is needed! Then, throw on some Florida-flare, and get ready for the happiest part of the day, Happy Hour!

There’s tons of restaurants and bars on and around Las Olas Boulevard, and most of them have incredible happy hours! Since you only have a day or two, here’s a few of my favorites to help you decide which one to hit up! Most start at 4pm and end at 6 or 7pm. Just check their info on maps here!

Enjoy a Night on the Town

After you grab those happy hour deals, nighttime will likely be setting in. If you’re not too tired, you can head to another venue for a drink, or even dinner if you’re still hungry!

Right now most places are open, but please be sure to wear a mask, and wash your hands! It’s also best to make a reservation to avoid crowding in case you need to wait for a table.

Breakfast at Your Hotel or a Cafe

Wake up early and enjoy your included breakfast, or head out to a local cafe! Make sure you load up because you’re going to need a lot of energy for this fun-filled day!

Stroll Through Bonnet House Gardens

One of the top recommended things to do in Fort Lauderdale is to visit Bonnet House Museum and Gardens. Built in 1919, this 35 acre estate was meant to be a wedding gift from a wealthy settler to his daughter.

Much of the old fashioned decor is preserved inside the house, which is now the museum. Outside is a sprawling garden you can get lost in for hours!

Sunset Cruise on the Intracoastal and Millionaires Row

Yes you read that correctly, there’s a place called “Millionaire’s Row” in Ft. Lauderdale. As the name implies, it’s a row of mega-mansions along the intracoastal owned by, of course, millionaires! 

There are several boat cruises and tours you can take that will take you along the calm wates of the intracoastal. Some even offe booze cruises! You can go earlier for some fun in the sun, or a little later for a stunning sunset cruise!

Dinner in Downtown Ft. Lauderdale

Using the lists I mentioned earlier, make a reservation for one of the many amazing restaurants in downtown Fort Lauderdale!

  • I've been waiting 2 years for this adventure in Pakistan, so after an 18 hour journey to get here, I hit the ground running! Sundays are mellow and a lot less crowded, so I got a relatively chill stroll through the Kotwali Wala Bazar, where I stopped for chai, bought too many pairs of shoes and bangles, and a free hand stamp henna! Then it was off to the famous Haveli rooftop restaurant in a former mansion overlooking the mosque and other religious sites, followed by another chai, a stop at the pharmacy in the dodgier area (picked up a cold in between trips), and finally back to a 5 star hotel i found for just $65 per night! Absolutely loving it so far, and I'm so grateful for my hosts who have been so patient with my constant travel changes and made up itineraries! Cannot wait to come back here with a group already, and i haven't even gotten to the mountains yet!!! I'm going to attempt daily posts, so please be sure to follow along if you're interested in seeing more! Also yes, so far I feel safe here as a solo female travelers, but let's see how it is on a crowded weekday and after that lovely little mountain flight to Skardu! Anyone have Pakistan on their bucketlist??

I had dejavu in Lahore, recognizing the style of the mosques from those I've seen so many times in India, and then I got a nice history and geography lesson to learn that it's because both countries were all once ruled by the same Moghul empire, which is where this architecture comes from, and why it may remind some of you of the Taj Mahal! The red structure is the Badshahi Mosque, and the last photo is a sneak peak of the ornate Wazir Khan Mosque! The photo with the Pakistani family is probably my favorite - they asked me for a photo, so I asked for one as well! Which is your favorite photo?   • Finally beat the budget airlines game!! This is for everyone who has ever gotten excited for a $20 flight in the EU, only to end up paying double for even a carryon! [Comment “travel” and I’ll DM you the link to my packing tutorial and all of these products!] For everyone who has tried to layer on as much as possible when they’re weighing bags, and who has had a mini melt down when they ask to place your bag in the measuring bin! I present to you, my top travel packing hacks as a full time travel professional: 1. Travel compression bags (now with portable pump) 2. Foldable toiletry bag with bare minimum necessities 3. Bags that sneakily expand 4. Convertible shoes This is all I packed for a 6 day trip to Venice, Mallorca, and a black tie wedding in Alicante! And if I can do it, so can you, becaaauussee I’m a former live-out-of-giant-suitcase gal from my decade as a nomad, but now with a home base in Italy (and Mexico), I’ve adapted to “bring as little as possible since you go back home”, both for convenience and to avoid thousands of dollars in baggage fees each year! Do you think you could manage with a personal item only?? Are you a checked bag person or carry on only?
  • T-minus 2 weeks till I return to the ‘Stan’s of Central Asia, but instead of solo, this time with 16 brave adventurous souls from our Travel Tribe Group Adventures Community! After exploring and navigating logistics alone, I’ve put together a custom, logistically-chaotic, yet adventure packed, luxe-comfort route and itinerary that has probably been one of the most difficult to coordinate for a group! 😁😂 Manifesting a smooth and safe journey for us all!   • The only times you don’t need an eSIM while traveling are when you literally cannot be holding a phone 😂 For all other times, easily download an eSIM like AloSIM which are really affordable at just a few dollars per day or less versus the typical $10 for international roaming!   • Traveling was not a possibility for me when I was younger, yet now I’ve reached my 150th country (out of the 197 list which includes Kosovo)!! It has taken me 12 years, I’ve done most of them solo, and many have been collaborations that I received or pitched, but anything else, including most flights was solely paid for by myself, and here’s how I did it: (But first! Comment “TRAVEL” and I’ll send you links to my tips for making money while traveling, how to play flight roulette, and also this Balkans roadtrip itinerary!) 14 years ago - I started my blog but it didn’t make much money for a couple years. I used my only money and a credit card to take my first trip. I was one of the first people to pitch the concept of “free trips in exchange for social media posts” and I sent hundreds of them, always landing at least one, but there was still so much to see! With the money I earned from my blog, paid posts, and my writing for other platforms, I’d go travel but I’d play what I called “flight roulette”, where I pick “anywhere” as the destination, and choose the cheapest flight to somewhere I hadn’t been yet! As my business grew, I needed to repeat many countries each time year, and now I still travel to an average of 25 countries per year as a traveler-by-trade (influencer/entrepreneur), with the goal of 5-10 new ones each year. I never thought I’d reach all 197 countries…but now that there’s only 47 left…do I attempt it?!?! You can see all the countries I’ve been to and written about on my blog using the clickable map on the home page of mylifesamovie.com, or the menu that’s categorized by destination! As for making money to travel - I have a lot of posts on that and also a course, which teaches techniques for everyone, not just those wanting to be a creator! And for anyone who DOES want to be a creator or group trip host — my biggest advice is to find a niche personal to you, find your specific audience who can relate, and don’t just copy other people’s techniques, create new ones and stand out! I've been waiting 2 years for this adventure in Pakistan, so after an 18 hour journey to get here, I hit the ground running! I've been waiting 2 years for this adventure in Pakistan, so after an 18 hour journey to get here, I hit the ground running! Finally beat the budget airlines game!! This is for everyone who has ever gotten excited for a $20 flight in the EU, only to end up paying double for even a carryon! Traveling was not a possibility for me when I was younger, yet now I’ve reached my 150th country (out of the 197 list which includes Kosovo)!! It has taken me 12 years, I’ve done most of them solo, and many have been collaborations that I received or pitched, but anything else, including most flights was solely paid for by myself, and here’s how I did it: (But first! Comment “TRAVEL” and I’ll send you links to my tips for making money while traveling, how to play flight roulette, and also this Balkans roadtrip itinerary!) 14 years ago - I started my blog but it didn’t make much money for a couple years. I used my only money and a credit card to take my first trip. I was one of the first people to pitch the concept of “free trips in exchange for social media posts” and I sent hundreds of them, always landing at least one, but there was still so much to see! With the money I earned from my blog, paid posts, and my writing for other platforms, I’d go travel but I’d play what I called “flight roulette”, where I pick “anywhere” as the destination, and choose the cheapest flight to somewhere I hadn’t been yet! As my business grew, I needed to repeat many countries each time year, and now I still travel to an average of 25 countries per year as a traveler-by-trade (influencer/entrepreneur), with the goal of 5-10 new ones each year. I never thought I’d reach all 197 countries…but now that there’s only 47 left…do I attempt it?!?! You can see all the countries I’ve been to and written about on my blog using the clickable map on the home page of mylifesamovie.com, or the menu that’s categorized by destination! As for making money to travel - I have a lot of posts on that and also a course, which teaches techniques for everyone, not just those wanting to be a creator! The only reasons you should NOT get an eSIM are if you enjoy searching for wifi, paying more for roaming, or you really want to disconnect 😜 But if you want to make your trip easier, just download an app like @alosim_app and get an affordable data plan, install it in seconds, and then it'll activate as soon as you arrive!
